Ploutos
Ploutos -the god of Wealth- was too fond of humans, a disagreeable trait according to Zeus. The latter decided that action was needed in order to prevent humans from accumulating too much money and power.
For this reason Zeus blinded Ploutos, whose lack of vision caused a random distribution of wealth. To the ancient Greeks the myth offered an explanation for the arbitrary nature of affluence.
