Bellerophon

With the help of Athena, Bellerophon became the sole tamer of Pegasus. He defeated various beasts including the Chimera. These laudable deeds as well as his captivating manliness rendered him highly desirable among the locals.

Unfortunately the praise got to Bellerophon's head and he turned into a snobbish, self-centred man. He thought himself worthy of dining with the gods, mounted Pegasus and then headed towards Olympus.

The sight of the vain hero flying up vexed Zeus, who struck Bellerophon with a thunderbolt and took his prized winged horse.
